- E………… as ‘e’ in net
- I………… as ‘I’ in it
- O…………as ‘o’ in hot
- U…………is more like the double o in choose
These sounds are constant, and reliable, no matter what position of whatever word they are in. TRY TO PRACTICE THEM OUT LOUD.

- B………. as ‘be’ in better
- C………. as ‘se’ in set
- Until 1994 ‘ch’ was classed as a letter in the Spanish alphabet, now it no longer exists.
- D………. as ‘de’ in devil
- F……….. as ‘effe’ in effect
- G………. is almost the ‘h’ from head sound but with a rasp as if clearing the throat
- H………. is always totally silent
- J…………as ‘h’ in head
- K……….. as ‘ca’ in cafe
- L………… as ’ele’ in eleven
- Until 1994 ’ll’ was also classed as a letter in the Spanish alphabet, again it no longer exists.
- M………. as ’eme’ in remedy
- N………. as ‘ene’ in enemy
- N………. as ‘nee’ in need
- p………. as ‘pe’ in pet
- Q………. as ’cou’ in coup
- R………. as ‘ere’ in heretic with a slightly rolled sound
- RR…….. Academics do not recognise the ‘rr’ although it is widely used in the Americas; it is a much longer rolled sound
- S………. as ‘esse’ in essential
- T………. as ‘te’ in temper
- V……… sounds like ‘B’
- W……… is a strange one to explain, sounds like double oo vay
- X………. sounds like ‘key’ with slight throat clearing sound once again
- Y………. as ’y’ in your
- Z………. as ’th’ in theory
PS.
When learning a foreign language it’s always wise to practise the alphabet sounds. Although I have tried to put on paper the sounds of the alphabet; it will always be a lot simpler to learn pronunciation from an audio lesson. Your introduction to Spanish should be a natural easy one.
